My peanut butter and Yerba Mate intake has dramatically increased, my toenail has grown back, and my free time has dwindled to the few minutes before the lecture begins.
In case you haven’t guessed, I am back in school. And while I know this year will be the best one yet, we’re off to a bit of a shaky start.
A few things have changed this year, the biggest being that I now have to worry about my parents and roommates Venmo-ing me so I can pay the utility bills… shoutout to Peter and Cheryl for still fully supporting me.
Nevertheless, apartment life is pretty great. I am the kind of person who needs a bit of space to rest and recharge after a long day, which was close to impossible last year while living in a 61-girl sorority house, so with only 4 of us living in this apartment, I am already able to feel a bit more calm and centered. Call me crazy, but I love going to the grocery store and cooking for myself. It’s a little act of self care; I put good stuff into my body, and my body thanks me for it.
Sorority recruitment finished almost two weeks ago and I am so happy I don’t have to do it again until next year. Besides the fact that I celebrated my 20th birthday on the first day and I ran on roughly 12 hours of sleep for the entire week, I am so pleased with how the day I was in charge of planning went, as well as our new pledge class. All of my Snapchat memories are reminding me of 2 years ago when I was in their shoes, and I can’t believe how much I have grown since then.
Finally, I went home this past weekend for a small, lowkey family gathering, best known by its hashtag #MandJtakethebay. We celebrated my cousin, Melissa, getting married to her college sweetheart, Jeff, on Saturday, October 5th. Not only was this weekend filled with memories we’ll be talking about for years to come, one being me riding a mechanical bull, but it also reminded me of how loving and supportive my entire family is. I feel that it’s not very common for extended families to have group chats that are messaged in regularly, filled with funny pictures of one another, and even less common that we can spend two whole days together without a massive fight breaking out. I am very lucky to be surrounded by these incredible people, especially after the days of my toddler tantrums, and know that we’ll all be keeping in touch as the years go on.
Overall, I am so excited to see where this year takes me, as I have some pretty lofty goals that I have set for myself. I’ll keep you guys updated as they come, even though they won’t be as exciting as going topless on a beach in Ibiza.
Be well,
Megan
